“ News-Chronicle ” Declares Three Ministers’ Resignations are Imminent. APPEAL FOR SOLIDARITY MADE. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received September 17, 9 a.m.) LONDON, September 16. ACCORDING to the “ News-Chronicle ” the resignation of Sir Herbert Samuel, Sir Archibald Sinclair and Viscount Snowden from the Cabinet is a strong possibility, and may be followed by resignations among the junior Ministers. The “ News-Chronicle ” publishes a long, inspired reply to a leader in “ The Times,” which appealed to the followers of Sir Herbert Samuel to retain their posts on patriotic grounds, and declares that neither Sir Herbert Samuel nor his followers are sympathetic with the appeal made in “ The Times.”
FURTHER MEETING.
“Is National Government Still Necessary?” British Official Wireless. (Received September 17, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, September 16. The attitude of the Liberal members of the Government towards the fiscal issues arising out of the Ottawa Conference is still engaging considerable public attention.
“The Times” says: “The reasons which induced the Liberals to stay in the National Government last November and last February have lost none of their force.” The “Manchester Guardian” says: “ Although no decision has yet. been taken, it cannot longer be delayed, and a further meeting of the Liberal Ministers will be held. If they decide that the political outlook still necessitates a National Government and apply the formula of agreeing-to-differ on the Ottawa agreements, they will make a public statement of their reasons for suet a decision.”
