TOO MANY DOCTORS.
Medical Profession Declared Over-crowded. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 16. The subject of the over-crowding of the medical profession was mentioned at a gathering consisting of the leading medical practitioners of Sydney, one of whom said that such over-crowd-ing would possibly lead to inefficient work and unscrupulous practices, consequent on the tierce competition which was bound to come. It was pointed out that in England there was one practitioner to each 1100 people, in France there was one to each 500, whereas in New South Wales the proportion was one to 780. Other speakers expressed the opinion that during the next fifty years there would be a change in medicine as a whole. The social system was also changing, therefore it would be best for the profession to recognise that fact and make its changes from within rather than wait for them to come from outside.
