COMPETITIONS.
Caledonian Society’s Events. The annual competitions conducted by the Canterbury Caledonian Society were concluded in the Caledonian Hall last eve®Mg - ,, before a good attendance. In addition to the piping and dancing sections the Scottish song and the recitation for competitors over twelve years and under seventeen years of age were heard. Unfortunately the entries in both classes were small, but the judge (Mr R. A. Malcolm) expressed himself as well satisfied with the standard shown. In the piping marches, I. Cameron and G. Wakefield, who were
first and second respectively in the • strathspeys and reels on the opening night, finished in the same positions in the face of strong competition. Both the senior and junior championships in dancing were won by Hazel Neil, with 366 points in each case. The judge of the dancing (Mr J. Fraser) said that teachers should pay more attention to the finishing movements of their pupils. Nearly all the competitors had failed to finish correctly- The juvenile dancing, he said, had been especially good. On the motion of Mr C. S. Thomas, president of the society, those present accorded the judges a vote of thanks. Results were:— HIGHLAND FLING. Ten years and over, 1932 pupils.
