If all the gold mined in the past four centuries could be made into one solid cube the block would measure 384 ft in length, breadth and thickness. The block would weigh 65 million pounds. If the gold were made into paving blocks an inch thick there would be enough to cover a street four miles long and thirty feet wide.
Though it is generally claimed that Orville Wright made the first flight in 1903, a reasonably authentic though unofficial flight was made by N. C. Ader at Satory, U.S.A., in 1896. Ader had
been experimenting with Sir Hiram Maxim for i-ears previous to this oc-
casion, when his machine “ lifted itself from the ground and flew 350 yards.”
