Model Aeroplane Notes

(Exclusive to “The Star.”)

Squadron Points. The final of the squadron competition will be flown off during the weekend, and it should result in a win for No. 2. The squadron positions are as follows: No. 2 320 1 No. 3 300 2 No. 1 264 3 It can be seen that No. 1 will have to be in record-breaking form if they hope to fill either first or second place. A spirited struggle between No. 2 and No. 3 should mark the finish. ASHBURTON NEWS. After a short period of inactivity the Mid-Canterbury M.A.C., Ashburton, recommenced its weekly meetings, with marked success. The best flight of the day was put up by J. Milsom’s spar tractor, the machine remaining aloft for 2 minutes 10 seconds. Unfortunately this flight was not officially timed and therefore cannot be claimed as a record. G. Lithgow secured second best time with 55sec. Fuselage models are beginning to make an .appearance in this club, and before long some good flights are expected. The result of the squadron competition is as follows: No. 1, 433 points, 1; No. 4, 114 points, 2; No. 2, 69 points, 3; No. 3, 49 points, 4. The squadrons are to be rearranged to make more even competition. 85 55 IMPORTANT CHANGE. An important change is announced

with regard to the Aunt Hilda Cup. The class is to be changed from stick model to fuselage R.O.G. This step has been taken to encourage boys to build 'planes to Wakefield Cup specification and conditions. The donor agreed to the change, as it was for the good of the sport. JOTTINGS. A social will be held shortly at which the A grade, pilot and ace certificates won by members of the club will be presented. A very interested visitor to our club at three meetings held this week has been Mr W. A. Judkins, the president of the newly formed Greymouth Model Aero Club. Some good flights have been put over and all the information our boys possess willingly feiven. A consignment of simple ’planes has been sent over to Westport this week, the work of the local boys. They will be on view in Mr F. A. Morgan’s window and we hope to get particulars of their first meeting shortly. Another letter from Hokitika gives details of organising work there, and a number of 'planes will be sent there as ’soon as our boys can build them. Inquiries have also been received from Rakaia and Mount Hutt. In EVERY case where the request is made and the support is forthcoming, our boy® will lend a hand. They make the planes and donate the material, a very sporting spirit indeed for boys whose cash is not very abundant. Carry on the good work of true and noble sportsmanship, boys!
