RUMOURS CURRENT.
High Commissioner May Retire. NO ADVICE IN DOMINION. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, August 2. Rumours are current that the High Commissioner in London is not desirous of continuing in office at the close of his present term, and has requested t* a Government to release him for return to New Zealand. The Prime Minister stated to-day, in reply to a question, that he has had no communication fre > Sir Thomas Wilford'on the subject, and the matter of extending the term of his appoi .merit or making a new appointment has not been considered. Sir Thomas Wilford’s appointment is due to expire at the end of this year.
