TOLL OF THE CROSSING

Number of Accidents Not Declining. As a result of the twenty-nine level crossing accidents which have occurred in the seven months of this year, five persons have been killed and twentyfour injured. The position, as compared with former years, shows little improvement, for already there have been nearly as many accidents as last year, and the casualty list is but five short of the 1931 total. The majority of level crossing accidents have taken place through collisions between motor-cars and trains. For the complete twelve months last year there were 34 crossing accidents, in which thirteen people were killed and twenty-one injured. Over the tenyear period from 1922, 154 persons have lost tj?eir lives and 492 have been injured. The worst year was 1930, when there were 34 deaths and 52 injuries. There were 65 accidents in this year. In 1924. 13 persons were killed and 98 injured, while in the following v«~- 11 were killed and SO injured.
