TREATED ON MERITS.
Applications for Relief Work. CASE OF MEN WITH BANK BOOKS The fact that a person possesses a Savings Bank account does not in itself debar him from obtaining relief under the Unemployment Board's schemes, according to the ActingMinister of Employment (the Hon Adam Hamilton) in a letter to last evening’s conference of representatives of the Churches and Labour. The Minister pointed out. however, that as the funds at the disposal of the board were insufficient to grant a full ration of relief to every eligible applicant, various factors bearing on the degree of necessity of each applicant for relief must be considered m order that, with the funds available, the most necessitous cases received first consideration. This was not intended to imply that every person with a bank account was eligible for relief. Each application for relief was considered on its merits, but it would be readily understood that, other things being equal, a person with a fairly substantial bank account could not be regarded as being equally in need of relief as one with no resources whatever.
