RETURNED SOLDIERS.
More Money for Relief of Unemployment. The executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association met last evening. The Finance Committee reported that a further grant of £2OO had been received from the National War Funds Council for the relief of unemployment, and that the Mayor had promised a grant of £lO a week for five weeks. It had been decided that the grant from the National War Funds Council should be expended on the provision of subsidy work, and (hat the grant from the Mayor’s Distress Fund should be allocated to the Benevolent Committee. The Benevolent Committee was given authority to expend up to £SO weekly on relief. A letter had been sent to the Dominion Executive requesting it to urge the Canteen Funds Board to expedite the July grant for the relief of unemployment. The committee’s report was adopted. A grant of £6l for the relief and benefit of disabled men was received from the Akaroa Lady Liverpool Fund. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the committee. The Lyttelton sub-branch of the association was granted £5 for the relief of unemployment. Challenges to billiards and sporting contests were received from the Dunedin R.S.A., and were referred to the committees concerned. Mr W. E. Leadley reported that the unemployment registrations in the past fortnight had totalled 526. A total of 120 extra days* work on a subsidy basis had been found for men, at a cost to the association of £4O.
