ASHBURTON RUGBY.
Meeting of Management Committee. (Special to the “Star.”) ASHBURTON, August 3. The Management Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union met this evening. the president (Mr 11. Sarney) beingin the chair. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote stating that a special meeting of the council would be held in Wellington on August IS to consider remits from the Wanganui Rugby Union opposing the rule regarding the non-replacement of injured piayers and suggesting a more reasonable ruling providing for the replacement of injured players up to within twenty minutes after the commencement of the second spell. Representative Match. In view’ of the third grade representative match at Timaru on August 33. it was decided to ask clubs to nominate players stating the positions taken by them in their respective teams. The chairman reported that Ellesmere was prepared to play the annual match on September 17. but in the event of the game with Canterbury B eventuating on September 10 it was agreed to offer this date to Ellesmere. It was decided to write to the Mount Somers Club asking why F. Agassiz and E. W. Murphy had played for the club on July 23 in defiance of the union's instructions that these players had been regraded as seniors, and to give a reason why they should not be deprived of the match. The secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Union wired as follows:—“Suggest requisition special meeting affiliated unions reference' leaving field half time in addition to replacements.” The matter of representation at the meeting was left with Mr Biggar to arrange. Draw for Saturday. The draw for Saturday is as follows: Seniors—Mayfield v. Old Boys, at Show Grounds (Mr G. Brown); Rakaia v. Methven, at Rakaia (Mr W. IT Featherston). Juniors—Methven v. Springburn, at Methven (Mr A. Cox); Technical v. Mayfield, at Mayfield (Mr E. Brophy); Old Boys v. Mount Somers, at Mount Somers (Mr E. M’Dougall); Hinds v. Rakaia, at Hinds (Mr P. Morrison); Low’diffe a bye. Third Grade—Methven v. Allenton, at Show Grounds (Mr W. Burrow's); Tinwald v. High School, at Show Grounds (Mr C. Wellman); Hampstead v. Technical Old Boys, at Show Grounds (Mr J. Lewis).
