CANTERBURY REPS.

Conclude Tour With Game To-morrow. FIXTURE AT TIMARU. (Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, August 2. Canterbury conclude their southern Rugby tour to-morrow with a mrftch against South Canterbury and enthusiasts here are keenly looking forward to the game. From the results of the Canterbury v. Otago and Canterbury v. Southland matches, it is quite possible that South canterbury will prove winners to-mor-row. The following players will represent South Canterbury:— Backs—Connolly. Ryan, Gaffaney, Morrison; Blyth, Cartwright; G. Gaffaney. Forwards—Seaton, J. Callanan, Adkins, Caird, Giddings, Shewan, D. Callanan, Duke. An interesting feature is that South Canterbury will be adopting the 3-4-1 scrum formation. The Players. Connolly is a good, safe back, tackles well, and has played for the South Island this year. Morrison—A good scoring man. "He has played some great games for his club, but is palpably more at home as a wing three-quarter than in any other position. He was nominated for the South Island team. Gaffaney, the captain of the side, is playing up to his best form and should be a tower of strength to his team. Ryan—A young player, showing a good deal of promise, and is fast developing into a good wing three-quarter. Blyth is a very solid five-eighth, is good on defence and is improving every game. Cartwright is a sturdy type of fiveeighth, although his handling is not always certain. He should, however, give a good account of himself. G. Gaffaney is a good, sound player, handy goal kick, and well worth his place. D. Callanan is a good, solid, fast player. J. Shewan. more solid than brilliant, and always to be found in the thick of it. W. Duke is liable to kick a goal from anywhere, and is a hard-working forward. G. Adkins is one of the heavy brigade, playing quite well, but gives the idea that he could do better. G. Giddings is a very useful forward. •He has not yet produced his real form. J. Callanan, nominated for the South Island team—gives every promise of developing into a top-liner. J. Caird, a hard-working forward, showing a slight improvement each game. R. Seaton, a versatile player, always dangerOus. but is capable o’f doing more than he does at present. SCHOOLS’ MATCH. The first fifteen's of St Bede's College and Timaru Boys* High School will meet at Timaru on Saturday. NELSON DEFEATS BUSH. Pe- Press Association. NELSON, August 1. Nelson proved superior to the Bush Union tourists to-day in both backs and forwards, the home team winning by 30 points to 7. The home team’s form was good enough to suggest that it will have a chance of lifting the Seddon Shield from Buller at the end of the month. ASSOCIATION GAME. The Boys' Division of the Canterbury Football .Association met last evening; Mr H. W. Wilkins presiding. The Y.M.C.A. fifth-grade team wrote stating that, owing to a depletion of members, it would be unable to carry on. Arrangements were made for two schoolboy teams to travel to Greymouth to take part in the South Island Primary Schools’ Association Football Association’s tournament, the tournament to start on August 22. Mr G. Tates was appointed manager and Messrs J. G. Parry and H. W. Wilkins were appointed delegates to the annual conference at Greymouth. The secretary was instructed to write to Dr Hansen, of the Christchurch Technical College, asking him to release the fifth-grade players who had been playing for the Y.M.C.A. Club, until the end of the present playing season. On Mr Foote's motion it was decided to refer a letter from the Technical Old Boys’ Club, regarding the re-grading of fifth and sixth-grade players, to the deputation w'hlch waited on Dr Hansen for a report. The competition which was conducted by the division was won by Mr R. Bradley with a total of 6155.
