Their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Bledisloe, have graciously signified their intention of visiting the Loan Exhibition of Antiques at the Durham Street Art Gallery, on Thursday morning, August 11, at 10.30 o’clock.

Mr and Mrs Ritchie (Wellington) are staying at the Hotel Federal.

Miss E. Prudhoe, Cashmere Hills, left last night, to spend several weeks’ holiday with relatives in Auckland. Mr and Mfß G. W. Jones, Wellington, who have been visiting the South Island, will return north this evening. Mrs Gilbert Grigg, Hororata, will be the guest of Mrs John Grigg, Fendalton, for the races.

Mr and Mrs R. M. Johnson, Mount Torlesse, will stay with Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson, Cashmere, next week. Visitors at the New City Hotel include Mr and Mrs J. Inglis (New York) and Miss D. Brownlie (Auckland). Miss Patricia Ritchie, Timaru, will be the guest of Mrs Frank Wilding, Kilmarnock Street, for the race week festivities.

Miss E. Witty, who had been spend ing the week-end in Christchurch, re turned to Parnassus yesterday morn ing.

Major and Mrs Robert Hannah, who have spent some months in New Zealand, will sail by the Mariposa from Auckland to-day on their return to England.

Misses M. M’Lauglin and L. W. Munro spent the week-end at Godley House, Diamond Harbour, and were amongst those who enjoyed the ski-ing on the slopes of Mount Herbert. Madame Winnie' Fraser, of Christchurch, has been engaged to appear as Pamina in Mozart’s “ Magic Flute,” which will be staged in Dunedin early in September.

Avonside Spring Fair is always looked forward to' with social interest as a meeting place of old parishioners and friends, gratefully combining in their annual effort to keep the parish free from debt. This year’s fair—to be held next month—will be more notable than ever, not only on account of the specially strenuous efforts called for by these times, but because it will be the last one with which the Rev Otho Fitz Gerald will be connected, as he retires at faster. Next Thursday the parish will be presented with a standard orchestral and vocal concert, arranged and conducted by Mr Arthur Lilly’s son, Ralph, who is an ex-choir boy of Avonside. The orchestra consists of seventeen players, including members of Mr Lilly, sen.’s, sinking class. Members of Miss Enid Lawson’s dance studio will contribute items, and Miss Lucy Cowan is preparing two sketches. The proceeds are for the choir members’ stall at the fair.
