LATE SPORTING.

OVER THE FENCES.

Billy Boy Again Shirks Kennels Double. PARIS LOSES RIDER. There was a considerable amount of schooing at late this morning, when the course proper was again available for steeplechasers. Billy Boy and Paris, two of the most fancied candidates for the Grand National Steeplechase, did not please their admirers. yNassock (Turner) jumped six hurdies in good style, while Jael (Cameron) went well over four hurdles. Okopua, who won two hack steeplechases at Trentham last month,* went twice round the inside fences. He was ridden by A. Skipper and went in excellent style.

Billy Boy and Lucess led Apache over the sod wall and the post and rails, but ran oft again at the first of the Kennels double. The other two went on and completed their task, both jumping well. With a short run up, Billy Boy jumped the Kennels double twice, but when given a longer run he again refused to tackle the first of the pair. His rider wheeled him round, and with a short run he popped over it. Royal Reign (Murfitt), Lancer (O’Connor), Gay Jim (Salt), Bon Aryan (Turner) and Royal Visitor (Burgess) were associated in a school over the course proper.

Lancer made a bad jump at the sod wall and ran off at the post and rails. Bon Aryan and Royal Visitor led Royal Reign and Gay Jim to the stand, where Royal Reign moved up and jumped the fence opposite Cutts’s stables with the other pair, Gay Jim being a few lengths away. These four all jumped well. Lancer had another try by himself. He jumped the post and rails, but baulked at the Kennels double.

Taramoa (V. Dempster) and Paris <G. Dempster) set oft for a round of the course proper. They jumped well till they came to the brush near the carriage paddock, where Paris lost his rider. Paris was captured and remounted, and he and Taramoa then jumped the fence opposite Cutts’s stable, but Paris did not clear it as well as his companion.

MELBOURNE INQUIRY. United Press Assn —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received August 2, noon.) MELBOURNE. August 2. Officials of the Victoria Racing Club state that no application for a license by a leading trainer has been disapproved by the committee for the new season. Because the terms of its licenses bind the applicant to abide by its rules, decisions of the V.R.C. Committee cannot be questioned by people seeking registration, and it is most likely that the reasons for the action against twelve jockeys will never be known.

Entries will be accepted for the 1934 St Leger during the next few weeks.

The committee also approved of a proposal to provide 10s windows as well as £1 and £5 windows in the main totalisator building at Trentham.
