New Pavilion Opened.

ASHBURTON, July 31
The official opening of the new pavilion recently erected in the Domain by the Ashburton Basket-ball Association was held on Saturday afternoon. The president of the association, Mr R. J. Thompson, extended a welcome to the visitors, and briefly referred to the value of the basket-ball game. He thanked Mr W. Bramley for his work in drawing up the plans and specifications, and Mr C. Maynard for supervising the work. The official opening was performed by Mrs R. J. Thompson, who congratulated the girls on their successful efforts in raising funds for the erection of the building. Concert For Unemployed.
There was a good attendance at the Salvation Army Hall on Saturday evening, when a concert and social were given for the entertainment of the unemployed men. The programme consisted of items given by Mrs H. J. Constable, Miss F. Chapman, Mr H. Baigent, Mr G. Ford, and members of the Salvation Army Band. In addition, songs were given by Bandmaster Bridge, of Wellington, better known as William Renshaw, of 2YA, who also rendered vocal items at all the Salvation Army services to-day.
