HOCKEY.

Garries Played on Slippery Ground. The second competition of the senior grade was commenced this afternoon. The grounds were slippery, but the weather was ideal. TECHNICAL v. VARSITY. Technical had the better of the first quarter of an hour, and confined play to Varsity’s end, hut the slippery ground spoilt good hockey, and noigoals were registered. Trebilcock got awav for Technical and passed across to Oracle, who centred to Lohrey. The last named missed an easy shot, and Oracle shot behind. Hasell stopped a Technical rush and transferred .to Hayes, whose shot was cleared by Archer. The Varsity forwards swept down, and Ford put over a neat centre, which was stopped by Goldstone. Half-time came with no Technical dominated the attack in the early stages of the second spell . Lohrey accepted a pass from Roger's and sent on to Trebilcock. who went in to Varsity’s circle, but Penney hit out. Lohrey, Moir and Duffield were prominent in a Technical rush, which was cleared by Forsyth. Technical kept up and Forsyth conceded a corner, from which Duffield essayed a shot. Forsyth cleared it cleverly. A succession of penalty corners to Technical brought no result, Hall saving brilliantly on several occasions. Varsity’s forwards broke away, led by Hasell, but Rogers stopped the rush and sent Lohrey away. The latter’s centre was too hard. Varsity gained ground by a pretty passing rush, but Ford lost possession in the circle. Lohrey broke away for Technical and passed to Moir, but Forsyth hit over. A penalty corner to Sydenham made them dangerous. From a corner Selwyn had several shots at goal. Edginton had a shot which went behind. Good play on Mounsey’s part on the right for Selwyn resulted in a corner. From an attacking mov*ement S. Andrews opened the score for Selwyn with a good shot. Selwyn 2, Sydenham 0. Sydenham took the offensive, and Langridge put in a good shot, but off-side was ruled. Halftime was called with the score: —Selwj’n 1, Sydenham 0. Sydenham pressed hard from the resumption and from play following a penalty corner Rusbridge followed in and scored with a nice back-handed shot. Sydenham 1, Selwyn 1. Lane put across a good centre and Selwyn missed a great opportunity of scoring. Langridge narrowly missed for Sydenham a moment later. Yuill missed in going out to save and Oliff found the net for Selwyn. Selwyn 2, Sydenham 1. The same player scored for Selwyn about five minutes later. Selwyn 3, Sydenham 3.
