THE RUGBY CODE.

Sydenham Meet Christchurch on Oval. CLOSE GAME EXPECTED. -tydenham will have a hard struggle -m«) the Oval at Lancaster Park tomorrow, when they meet the Christchurch team; if they do not produce their best form their unbeaten record is likely to go. Christchurch have shown improved form lately; the forwards are working together well, and the inside backs have steadied down into a good club combination. In the matter of absentees, the teams are both affected. Christchurch are without Hart, Manchester and Cottrell, and Sydenham without Innes. If Sydenham are beaten in the forwards, as might well happen, their backs will have a hard afternoon. & :: Linwood scored a win over Varsity last week, but that does not give them any great chance against Men. vale, whose backs have been working well and scoring many tries. Men vale are working hard to get into top form for their return contest with Sydenham, and it is likely that they will keep Linwood hard on the defensive to-morrow at Rugby Park. :>• Old Boys will have their work cut out against Albion on the south ground, i There is no particular brilliance about 1 Albion this season, but they play a sound j game in every department, and unless Old Boys strike one of their bright j patches they are liable to suffer defeat, j "With the selection of the Canterbury- j team looming nearer, the backs of both j sides w-ill be on their toes. With clean 1 heeling there should be some bright movements by both sides. Varsity will meet Athletic at the Showgrounds, and though the students should win, they will have to play a good game to do so. Athletic are hard in the forwards and have put up one or two performances this season that show that they have to be taken seriously. The students can play excellent Rugby, but they can also reach the other extreme, and in that case the game might go against them. HOW THEY STAND. Canterbury Rugby Union’s Junior Grades.
