Some very Important Questions and Answers for Christchurch People Q. —Why has the 4 lb. loaf been re- • duced from 7d. to 6d. in Christchurch ? A.—Because certain master bakers have started another bakery which is suplpying some stores (but not the Self-Help Co-op.) at a price to enable them to retail at 6d. Q.—Why did the master bakers do this ? A.—To force the Self-Help Co-op. to agree to the master bakers’ demands to raise the price of bread to tht people of Christchurch. Q.—What do the master bakers hope to gain by this? A.—They hope to force the SelfHelp Co-op. to meet this price and lose money, or raise its price and be under-sold. Q.—Are the stores which assist the master bakers to fight the SelfHelp Co-op. by reducing the 4 lb. loaf to 6d., playing the game to the Christchurch people? A.—Not if the aim to force the SelfHelp Co-op. to agree to the master bakers’ demand and raise the price. Q. —Will the master bakers succeed in this? A.—lt is not in the interests of the people that they should. Q. —What is the aim of the SelfHelp Co-op. ? A.—To sell all household commodities at the lowest price possible, and the four main necessities (bread, butter, flour and sugar) at cost. Later it is hoped to add tea to this list. SELF-HELP CO-OP.
