The Loyal City of Christchurch Lodge members and their friends celebrated the seventy-ninth anniversary by a ball in the St Asaph Street Hall. The arrangements made by an enthusiastic committee left nothing to be desired by the large attendance of dancers. The tasteful decorations included festoons and drapings in purple and gold (representing the degree colours), palm groves and coloured lighting effects. The Deputy Grand Master of New Zealand (Brother T. J. Archbold) and Mrs Archbold Jed off the Grand March, and the display of regalia worn by members was an added charm to the festivities. Mr Norman Carson’s orchestra provided the music. Amongst those present were:—District Grand Master Brother C. J. Holsey, Deputy District Grand Master Brother S. J. Geary. AD Cooper, presided over the summoned meeting, and sick ?,Y„ was Passed for payment. P.D.O.AT. Brother France was accorded a heartv welcome, and with P.O. Brother D. D. Cooper as conductor, installed the following officers?—G.M., Brother R. M Cooper: N.G., Brother C. D. De Comte; V.G., Brother G. G.. Newton; elective secretary. Brother G. Small. A novel form of entertainment was held at the close of the meeting, and in the test of memory competition Brother a. Mitchell was awarded first place, Brother C. D. second place, and Brother G. Small third place. Loyal Excelsior Past Grands’ Lodge.— At the meeting held at Rangiora. the Purple Degree was conferred on P.G.’s Brothers F. Hen Id and S. Smith (Woodend Lodge). The election of officers resulted as follows: W.M.. Brother W. L. Orchard; D.M.. Brother H. Lucas; secretary. Brother J. Cooke, D.G.M.; warden. Sister J. Howard: tvler, Brother T. Gibbs. The retiring W.M. was voted a Past Grand’s jewel, and Brother Cooke was accorded thanks for his services as secretary for the past five years. Loyal Mayfield.—Sister Elves NG, presided over the fortnightly meeting iri the Band Hall, when one member was initiated into the Order. Past Grand Brother W. Ellery acted as lecture master and Brother R. M’Dowell as conductor. Sick pay amounting to £2 13s 4d was passed fer payment. Loyal City of Norwich.—Brother A. Thompson presided at the meeting, and it. was resolved to send letters of condolence to the relatives of four of the recently deceased brothers. The official visitors’ ticket for the lodge, to visit the Christchurch Hospital for the coming twelve months, was received, and it was resolved that, it b» handed to P.O. Brother W. J. Tooniey. who would act as the lodge official visitor. A discussion took place in regard to the conferring of the minor degrees, and a resolution was passed that the Loyal City of Norwich Lodge, acting in conjunction with the Loyal Kaia Toa Lodge, form a Special Degree Lodge for the purpose of conferring minor degroes, to meet monthly, commencing on the first Thursday in July. Four Degree Masters were provisionally appointed P.G.’s, S. E. Martin, R. T. Ings, G. C. Taylor and J. H. Williams. Loyal City of Christchurch.—The N.G., Brother W. A. East, presided over a well-attended meeting, and sick pay £53 4s 8d and accounts £202 11s ltd were passed for payment. One benefit and one honorary member were initiated, P.G.’h Brothers Cribb and Ayrcy conducting the candidates and P.D.G.M. Brother Roberts delivered the lecture. P.G. Brother Cribb explained the sentiments and aims of the Order to the candidates. from Ashburton and Rangiora Lodges. Loyal Papanui extended an invitation to attend the annual ball on July 12. The N.G. reported on the social arranged by Sister Jean Houghton (Loyal Sister Pearce Lodge), the function being a most enjoyable one. Loyal Kia Toa and Loyal Sister Pearce Lodges will be entertained next lodge night. The periodical valuation of the lodge funds was received from the actuary, and revealed the fact that during the period the membership increased by forty-five, the sum of £3659 bad been paid out for sick benefits, the mortality of memberes was less than expectations, and the mean rate of interest earned to the sick and funeral fund was 5.27 per cent. The improvement in the sick and funeral fund represents the surplus of £3519 since 1925. The principal sources of profit were interest on funds in excess of valuation rate, light sickness claims, interest on previous surplus to date of transfer and gains from secessions. The actuary complemented the lodge on the progress made during the four years, particularly on the high interest yield on the accumulated sick fund of £16,847, also the light sickness experience. X.0.0.F. Star of Opawa.—At the meeting last Tuesday applications were received and accepted from Drs Stevens, Glasgow and Taylor to be added to the lodge medical officers* list. During the evening Brother S. W. Perkins entertained members with a very instructive lecture on “ Photography,” and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Loyal Waimate.—Brother R. A. ClarJdge, P.G.. presided over a good attendance in the Orange Hall, Waimate. A transfer was received from Christchurch for a brother who has taken up residence in Waimate. The first degree was conferred on three brothers, and at the close of the lodge business members indulged in cards and supper was provided. Washington Lodge.—Noble Grand Brother Harman presided over a very large attendance of members and visitors. The hospital visitors reported having visited the hospital, and stated that all members were doing well; £44 12s 4d was passed for sick pay. Six candidates were proposed for membership. It was decided, on the recommendation of the Hall Committee, to make some alteration to the hall. It was decided to have the photos of the officers of the last term. It was resolved that the district Ritual Competition Shield for las tterm. It was resolved that the annual dance take place on Monday, July 18. A vote of thanks was accorded the Templeton Lodge for paying an official visit. Brother P.owe, P.G., of Templeton, and Brother Barnes, P.G. of Star of Sydenham, responded. After the lodge was closed. Dr Pullon gave the members a very interesting address. The Doctor was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, after which supper was provided. U.A.O.D. No. 1 Royal Arch Chapter.—An enthusiastic gathering of members welcomed the Royal Arch Druid (Brother T. A. Moody) on Tuesday night, when in an impressive manner he conferred the. Past Arch Degree on one sister and six brothers. The officers of the Chapter rendered capable assistance during the ceremony. Reports on the solo ritual competitions were tendered, and general satisfaction was expressed at the large entries received for each section. An announcement was made regarding the final solo competition—the District President’s charge—which will take place on Tuesday, July 19. A social function will be held on the occasion of the presentation of prizes, the date to be fixed at a later meeting. Reports were given on visits to lodges by officers of the Chapter, and It is intended to arrange for further visits. In view of the annual meeting in September, Brother F. E. Talbot, Grand Secretary, was appointed auditor to the Chapter. Perseverance Lodge.—A.D. Brother Collander presided over the meeting, at the close of which the lodge adjourned for harmony. The toast of “The King and the Druids” was followed by ‘"The Visitors," by Brother Hooker, and responded to by members of the Royal Arch Chapter and Oak of Sydenham. “The Performers” was proposed by Brother Collins and responded to bv Mr T. Cummings on behalf of the performers. The Royal Arch Chapter was represented by Brothers T. A. Moody. R.A.D., Herriott, P.R.A.D., Cooper. R.A D. Bard, Buist, R.1.G., and Goode, R.A. secretary, and were accorded a hearty welcome. The District President, Brother J. Pollard. presented Past Arch Brother J. M’Craeken with a, set of Past Arch regalia as a token of the esteem in which he is held by members of the lodge. The musical portion of the programme was contributed by Mr J. North, Brother R. Stephens (songs). Brothers Harvord and Brundale (instrumental duos), Messrs B. Rennell, L. Cummings. Harris (songs). Cole and Thompson (instrumental duos), F. 1 Moran (songs .and recitations) and J. Laurenson (recitations!. Mr J. Lawrence presided at the piano.

Philipson Tent.—The Chief Ruler, Brother J. F. Martin, presided over the meeting last Thursday. Reports on the visit to Riccarton Tent and the Juvenile Tent were tendered bv Sister Dell, for which she received the thanks or the lodge. It was resolved to nominate Brother Hayward as a judge for the initiation competition, and Brother Forsey was thanked for his report on tho U.F.S. Council meeting,.and Brother Perritt received a vote of thanks for his report on the meeting of the New Zealand Alliance. The Chief Ruler extended a welcome to visitors from the LO.G.T. and Ark of Refuge Tent. Sister Teague and Brother A. Rennie (1.0.G.T.) and Brothers Pope and A. D. Hnssall (Ark of Refuge) suitably responded. At the conclusion of the meeting a social hour was spent In dancing to music supplied by Brother Judkins, and solos were rendered by Sisters Drewitt and sisters 3 ' Su PP<? r was served by the A.O.F. Court Star of Belfast.—The C.R.. Brother J. Ashby, presided over a good attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of Court Star of Belfast. The secretary reported a. meeting of the management committee, at which important business had been dealt with. Sick pay was passed to five brothers, and one new member was initiated. After closing the Court, a gamo of cards was played against the Belfast Oddfellows, the visitors being the winners by a fair margin. Supper was provided, and thanks expressed by Brother L. W. Neale, N.G., on behalf of, the Oddfellows. An invitation to a return match was accepted. X.O.R. Pride of Christchurch Tent.—Chief Ruler Brother W. D. Bunt presided over an attendance of about fifty members. The sick stewards tendered reports, and five new members were initiated. Correspondence was received from the secretaries of the Elirn, Sydenham, Perseverance and Divisions of the Sons of Temperance, accepting the Pride’s invitation to visit them on their tent meeting on July 25. invitations were received from the Hope of Addington Tent to attend its meeting on July 5, and from Star of Woolston to the meeting on July 4. Tickets were received for the Riccarton Tent anniversary.

The report of the Provincial Council meeting was given by Brother Good, who announced that the tent had won the Baaeand Initiation Cup. He also asked the tent to ominate one judge, it having been decided to appoint one judge in place of six. Brother IT. PSmith was nominated. Brother Martin, secretary of Philipson Tent, presented the cup and congratulated the officers on their performance. Sister Smallwood, Past Chief Ruler, replied. Juvenile reports were given by the superintendents, Sister Smallwood and Brother J. Jackson. A report of the officers’ meeting was given bv Brother Bascand, who announced that final arrangements had been made for the anniversary social. Brother Robson reported on the meeting of the New Zealand Alliance in connection with its centenary. The social portion of the evening was in the hands of Sisters G. Bunt and A. Pycroft, who entertained the members with new games. The Cambridge Terrace Glee Club pave an entertaining sketch and were accorded a. very hearty vote of thanks for the entertainment. TlOpe of Sydenham [Division Sons of Temperance.—The Most 'Worthy Patriarch Brother IT. Wisher presided over the quarterly meeting in the Methodist Schoolroom, and with other officers of the Executive Council was welcomed by the Past Worthy Patriarch. Brother W. R. Grenfell. One member was initiated into full membership, and two were proposed and elected for initiation at the next meeting. It was decided to accept the invitation of the Pride of Christchurch Tent to a social evening on July 25. Officers were elected for the ensuing term as follows: Worthy Patriarch, M. Staee; Worthy Associate, Jl. Keenan; chaplain, W. Jogger; conductor. A. Mackwell; assistant conductor, It. Brown; Inside sentinel, J. Rouse; organist, E. Shaw. The quarter’s receipts amounted to £6O. Members were entertained at supper after the meeting was closed.
