FUNERAL OF MR W. STEAD.
The funeral of Mr Wilfred Gatenby Stead took place at the Hastings cemetery. The great respect in which the deceased was held was evidenced by the large number who gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. The ser ’ vices at both the residence, “ Flaxmere,” and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev Canon MortimerJones. There were representatives present from the innumerable social, sporting and other organisations with which the late Mr Stead was closely associated. The pall-bearers were: Sir Alexander Roberts and Messrs A. G. Stead, W. R. Stead, A. F. M. Symes, F. C. Fryer and Dr R. Cashmore. The cortege was a particularly long one, composed of over 60 cars. The i array of floral tributes was striking.
