ARTHUR’S PASS lies deep under snow this week —snow which, by Sunday, will he crisp and fast, offering the best possible conditions for ski-ers and sleighs. On Sunday, the Railway Department is running the first excursion of the season to this popular Winter sports ground, and hundreds of city workers will snatch a day of relaxation in the keen mountain air. Last winter proved the popularity of the Pass. It offers a contrast to the monotony of city life that sets the pulses racing and buries every-day cares completely. It is not necessary to be an expert on skis to enjoy a day at the Pass. Sleigh rides and, for the older folk, a quiet tramp over the snowfield are enjoyable. Of course, there is no thrill like that of ski-ing, and it has the advantage of bringing equal pleasure to the learner and the expert. Pick a deep drift to fall in, and flic tumbles that are a part of the game are harmless and exhilarating. Then come confidence and a sense of balance. See the experts as they fly down the road —checks tingling and flushed with happy exertion as the frosty air screams past their ears. Ask anyone who has been. They will tell you that a Sunday trip to Arthur’s Pass is a sure cure for the Monday morning feeling. , % If***’, \ ' LEADING THE WAY BALLANTYNES ARE IN THE FRONT RANK FOR WINTER SPORTS ATTIRE AND LEAD THE WAY TO CORRECTNESS AND . .
