Some Misused Words.
T.D. WRITES:—I should be interested to have your opinion on the word “ confidently.” For instance, would it be perfectly correct to use the phrase: We confidently recommend”? Yes, the word is well sanctioned. The adjective “ confident,” by the way, is quite commonly used by Shakespeare, and not in an archaic sense, either. To say We confidently recommend ” means “we recommend with assurance.” The American liner Monterey is pronounced “ Mon-tay-ray,” with the e sound as in “ eight.” The accent is on the final syllable, “ ray.” TOUCHSTONE.
