SMUGGLER FINED £15,000.

A notorious tobacco smuggler, Louis Lesser, who, in 1930, was fined £5740, has now been fined £15,000, in default six months’ imprisonment, for smuggling another ton, which he had secreted in an old submarine chaser. Lesser smiled and winked when the Magistrate remarked: “You probably! know the limit of my jurisdiction.”
