Insurance Premiums on Unemployed. LOCAL BODIES BENEFIT Reductions in the insurance pi miums charged to local bodies for ac< dent cover for relief workers will 1 made on July 4, when the rate will 1 reduced from 30s per cent to 25s p cent. Circulars containing advice this effect were received by local bodi in Canterbury yesterday. It is understood that the Unemplc ment Board has made the necessa arrangements with the insurance co: panies handling workers’ compensate business, but so far the Chnstchur offices of the companies concerned ha not yet had advice of the reduction. The new arrangements, it is believ< provide for the pooling of the premiui received by the insurance companies 1 a plan similar to that operating airea< in connection with the compulso third party insurance taken out motorists. Under this scheme the p miums are pooled and the claims a paid out from the pool. The reduction in premiums will of assistance to local bodies which, providing work for the unemployed t der the No. 5 scheme, have to find t tools and pay the insurance premiun Last year, insurance premiums on rel workers cost the Christchurch Ci Council £1233. Proportionately, 1 council has not spent quite so mu this year, but on last year’s figures t reduction will be worth at least £2O( year to the city. A number of otl local bodies which have been empl< ing large numbers of men will a reap a very real benefit.
