SYDENHAM DRAW WITH LINWOOD. i 1 Sparkling Back Play. e ' 3 s There were two big holiday attracl tions for Rugby enthusiasts at the Lan- - caster Park Oval to-day. The main “ match was between Christchurch and Old Boys, old and keen rivals, and as a curtain-raiser Sydenham and Linwood clashed. The prospect of fast games drew a good attendance. Surprise was caused by the fact that Linwood drew with Sydenham, 9 points all. CHRISTCHURCH v. OLD BOYS. e The teams were:— i Christchurch (red.and black)—Heas- * ley, Mackay, Pawson, Dawson, Shfrtj cliffe, Grennell, Bouterey, Adorian, Fleming, Murray, Anderson, Busch, Simpson, Frengtey, Boddington. Old Boys (white)—Parsons, Hall, M'Phail, Gregg, Mortlock, Gaskin, Vincent, Bowes, Bowes, Berry, Stanley, _ Foley, Bates, Lee Cross. ; LINWOOD V. SYDENHAM. Sydenham and Linwood played a curtain-raiser to the big match on the Oval. Sydenham assumed the offensive and when J. Hattersley fielded a.crosskick he lost no time in putting himself over for a try ihaf was not converted. Sydenham continued to press for some time, then a rally by the Linwood for- j wards transferred play to Sydenham’s | territory, where Quaid put in some neat work that left an open road for Herman ! to get across. The kick missed. Syden- ; ham 3, Linwood 3. A good bout of : passing by Rastrick and J. Hattersley i saw the former score Sydenham’s second try. The kick at goal failed. Sydenham 6, Linwood 3. The Linwood forwards, working in open order and tossing the ball about freely, pressed dangerously close to Sydenham’s line. A try was not far away, but an infringement resulted in a penalty to Sydenham, who easily cleared their line. At half-time the score was—Sydenham 6, Linwood 3.
