CLAIMS OF CHILDREN.
Service at Woodend,
The president of the Methodist Conference, the Rev M. A. Rugby Pratt, visited Woodend last Sunday morning and conducted the service at the local Methodist Church. There was a good congregation. Mrs Little was organist. Miss W. Peacock, Christchurch, sang a solo. During the service Mr Pratt christened the baby daughter of the Rev H. and Mrs Ford. An interesting address was given by Mr Pratt, in which he put forward the claims of young children. Concert. An excellent concert was, given last Saturday evening in the Public Hall by the members of the Woodend Social Club. This, being the first of the season, was well patronised. The first half of the programme consisted of choruses, part songs, a quartet and several solos. A humorous sketch, entitled “ The Bathroom Door,” formed part of the second half of the programme, Miss Stella Gibling and Mr Tom Chinnery taking the chief parts. The concert was under the conductorship of Mr H. Robson, Waikuku, and Mrs D. O’Shea was pianist. Basket-ball. The Woodend basket-ball team played Rangiora at Woodend School ground on Saturday afternoon and won by 15 points to 10. Mrs Reynolds, Rangiora, refereed.
