At Moortown in the first round of the Leeds 1000 guineas golf tournament, the results included the following: Cotton beat Green 4 tip and 3 to play. Seymour beat Havers 1 up Burton beat Denny at the twentieth hole. Rhodes beat Duncan 1 up. Tacobs beat Twine at the nineteenth hole. R. Whitcombe beat Padgham 2 up and 1. Wolliscroft beat A. Compston at the twentieth hole. Second Round. Barber beat Cotton 5 up and 4. Seymour beat Burton 2 up. Rhodes beat Allis 3 up and 2. E. Whitcombe beat Kenyon 2 up and 1 R. Whitcombe beat Wolliscroft at the nineteenth hole. Easterbrook beat Sayner 3 up and 2. Hodgson beat Buckle 6 up and 4. Rhodes, who was Duncan’s ex-assist-ant, beat his old master. Barber is Midlands .champion. He played golf that Bobby Jones could hardly have withstood. He went out in 32 and took only one putt on each of the nine greens. Jacobs, a youngster, made a name by beating Twine. QUEENSLAND TITLE. (Received May 20, 1.30 p.m.) BRISBANE, May 20. Charles Brown, professional, won the Open Golf Championship of Queensland, with an aggregate of 286. Other scores were:—T. Howard (Sydney) 287, J. Cohen (Queensland! 290, and IT. von Nida (Queensland) 292. Von Nida is only a lad and has just graduated from the caddy ranks.
