NEW ZEALAND INSTITUTE.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 19. At the meeting of the New Zealand Institute to-day, it was announced that the Carnegie Corporation, New York, had granted a thousand dollars towards the institute’s publication expenses. The formation of a National Research Council was decided on. As a nucleus of the council, the institute will appoint five men, who must be of recognised scientific attainments and thoroughly representative of the basic sciences. The committee was empowered to frame regulations as to the period of office and other matters having to do with the constitution of the council. The committee will then proceed at once or from time to time to co-opt other members to the council, provided the total number shall not exceed fifty*.
