POET LAUREATE’S PAY.

£7O a Year and a Butt of Sack for Mr Masefield. LONDON, May 12. Answering a question in Parliament, the Lord President of the Council, Mr Baldwin, said there were no conditions attached to the post of Poet Laureate, at present held by Mr John Masefield, who received £7O a year from the civil list, with an allowance of £27 in lieu of a butt of sack. An interjector: Are you aware there are other poets who are very hard up? Mr Baldwin made no reply.
