AUCKLAND BUSINESS. (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, May 19. A decidedly better tone has been evident on the Auckland Stock Exchange for the past twenty-four hours. A good number of sales have been put through, with recent values well maintained. There has been a firming up in the insurance section, advances being registered both in South British and New Zealands. At this morning’s call, banks were in rather better demand and the recent strengtliing of Australian issues was confirmed with a sale of New South Wales at 25s higher, at £25 15s. Australasias were asked for at £8 lSs, Unions at £6 10s and New Zealands at 445. British Tobaccos were wanted at 27s 3d. Blackwater and Consolidated Gold were again in request with buyers offering 8s for the former and 3s 5d for the latter. DAIRY PRODUCE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Christchurch, have received a cablegram from their London office giving the following information under date May 18: New Zealand dairy produce—Butter: 955; the market is very slow. Cheese: 56s to 575; the market is steady.
