HARMONY WANTED.

Circular Issued to All Men.

NO RECRIMINATIONS. “Now that the strike is over, it is essential that complete harmony should exist between all members of the staff,” stated a circular issued by the general manager for the Tramway Board (Mr Frank Thompson) to-day. “If those who left their work and who have now been re-employed cherish any feeling of enmity towards those who did not leave their work or towards those new men who have now joined the staff, they are required to refrain from indicating their feelings either by word or action and are required to encourage others to take the same course. “ Those men who did not leave their work and the new nrjen who have recently joined the service are required to adopt the same pacific attitude towards those who went out on strike and who have now been re-employed. “ The action of any employee w r ho fails to observe the spirit as well as the letter of the above requirement will be viewed with the strongest disapproval by the board." “ A CLEAN FIGHT." Strikers Congratulated by Engineers.

Admiration for the tramwaymen in their fight during their dispute with the board, and criticism of the Government’s action in suspending the Tramways Act in order that uncertificated motormen might be employed, was expressed last evening by members of the Amalgamated Engineers’ and Allied Trades’ Union. Two resolutions on the subject read as follows: (1) “That this union place on record its admiration of the clean fight put up by the tramwaymen in their endeavour to frustrate the vindictiveness of the Tramway Board, and calls on all its members to maintain their moral support to the men by curtailing their use of the trams until such time as the original staff is reinstated." (2) “ That this union emphatically protests against the action of the Government in acceding to the request of the Tramway Board for the suspension of the Tramways Act which provides that certificated motormen only shall operate the service. Such action, which permitted the tramways to be operated by uncertificated motormen can only be interpreted as a deliberate blow at democratic government inasmuch as it proves conclusively that any Act on the Statute Book, which provides for the general safety or health of the community is subject to suspension, and even elimination to comply with party prototypes and propaganda to the detrinent of the country."
