ROUND THE SUBURBS

Richmond Burgesses. The annual meeting- of the Richmond Burgesses’ Association was held in the Druids’ Hall, Avalon Street, on Monday, Mr S. W. Richardson presiding. The president, in submitting his annual report, stated that, owing to the depression, the City Council had done little in widening Stanmore Road. The widening of London Street from Pavitt Street had been completed and was a boon to traffic. The corner of Averill Street and Stapleton’s Road had been widened to the extent of about twelve feet and was safe to traffic. The corner of Vogel and Forth Streets had been widened and tar-sealed. North Parade had been widened, channels set back and path asphalted, and was a credit to Richmond. After considerable correspondence and deputations to the Works Committee of the City Council, the council had decided to make London Street a permanent road out of loan moneys and lie hoped to see this started shortly. The association’s representatives, Messrs Buist and Rowe, had collected £lO 3s for the All Nations Fair. The garden competition had resulted in A class, 3acre, being won by Mrs M’Kinle.v, with Miss Wilkinson second. The B class had been won by Mr Ashton. The credit balance was £l3 18s 2d. The president concluded bis report by thanking the Press for its splendid reports and the Works Committee of the City Council for the courteous manner in which he was always received. The election of officers resulted: Patrons, Messrs D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and M. W. Lawrence; president. Mr S. W. Richardson; vicepresident, Mr A. A. Hutchison; honorary presidents. Messrs Schofield, Stewart, Rowe and Mathers: secretary, Mr P. Buist: treasurer, Mr L. Kirk auditor. Mr L. J. Jackson: committee. Messrs Gale, Beare, Duncan, M’Arthur, Curry and Brown: delegates to United Burgesses’ Council, Messrs Richardson and Stewart: sub-delegates, Messrs Rowe and Hutchison. School Boxing Bisplay. Pupils of the Spreydon School gave a boxing display at the school last evening, when several exciting and willing bouts were witnessed. The pupils of the school have been receiving free tuition from Mr T. Brady for some time, and great interest has been shown by them in tire classes. A feature of the programme was an exhibition bout by Messrs T. Brady and T. Woids. There was a good attendance of parents.
