Wider Powers Wanted.

A proposal that the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life Saving Society should be vested with governing powers received the support of the Canterbury Head Centre last evening. The chairman, Mr M. E. Lyons, in presenting the report of a sub-committee appointed to consider the suggestions of Mr W. Collier, chairman of the Manawatu Head Centre, in regard to the New Zealand Council’s position, stated that the committee had endorsed the proposal that the council should be vested with wider powers. The committee was of opinion that a draft constitution should be formulated for submission to the various centres with the object of obtaining a new charter. The committee was also in favour of the appointment of a service officer, who, however, should not have too much authority over local examiners. The report was adopted and it was decided that a copy should be sent to the New Zealand Council for its information.
