Permission Given for Street Day. (Special to the “ Star.") ASHBURTON, March 21. The Ashburton Borough Council met to-night; present—The Mayor (Mr \V. H. Woods), Councillors F. Z. Ferriman, W. H. Rundle, F. W. Seldon, J. Watson, F. Small bone. J. Thompson, H. R. C. M’Elrea. E. Orr, W. H. Collins, W. H. Robinson and R. Kerr. Permission was granted to the Returned Soldiers’ Association to take up the annual street collection on Friday, April 22, which is known as “ Poppy Day.” Permission was also given for the holding of the customary services on Anzac Day, April 25. The Technical School Board wrote asking if there was any possibility of the council disposing of the iron fence around the eastern part of Baring Square. It was explained that the board had in view the erection of an ornamental fence round the Technical School grounds. It was pointed out that the fence had been donated for the purpose it now fulfilled, and it was agreed to advise the Technical School Board that the council would not consider the matter of its removal at present. The curator reported that Mr J. H. Grigg, of Longbeach. had donated a sack of early flowering iris plants for the Domain. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Grigg. School Athletics. The annual meeting of the Mid-Can-terbury Primary Schools Athletic Association was held this evening. The balance-sheet showed that the year commenced with a credit balance of £lO 3s and concluded with a credit of £l2 10s 7d. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr J. H.
