APPEAL ALLOWED.
New Guard Leader has Conviction Quashed. SYDNEY. March 7. Mr Justice K. W. Street upheld the appeal of Colonel Eric Campbell against the conviction at the Police Court of having used offensive language during a public speech in which he attacked Mr Lang. Colonel Campbell had been fined £2, or five days' imprisonment. The statements complained of in the charge included the following references by Colonel Eric Campbell to the Premier, Mr Lang: “A nasty tyrant and a scoundrel ”; “ A buffoon at the head of affairs ”; and “ The hated ‘ old man of the -sea,’ ” Campbell was convicted by a Magistrate and fined £2. DISSOLUTION WANTED. SYDNEY, March 8. The Governor, Sir Philip Game, will receive a deputation from the New Guard on Friday, when a petition will be presented bearing hundreds of thousands of signatures, asking for a dissolution of the New South Wales Parliament.
