POSITION IN FINLAND.
Recent Cables Were Wrong, Says Consul.
Cables concerning an uprising in Finland, which appeared in the Press recently, were incorrect, according to advice which has been received by Mr Waino Sarelius, Vice-Consul for Finland, from Mr Harold Tanner, the Consul in Sydney. Mr Tanner received cabled advice on March 3, as follows :
The development of the situation is stiff favourable. The President has given a declaration to the Civil Guards, in which he asserts that some of their members have joined the movement against the State, and in which he emphasises the danger arising from a “break” in the Guards. From information reaching the Government from various parts of the country, it was apparent that a strong opposition to the uprising is spreading and gaining force. The Ministers for the Treasury, Social Affairs and the Assistant Minister for Internal Affairs have tendered their resignations, though they have not been accepted as yet.
