PORT ALMA ARRIVES.
Experimental Shipment of Bananas on Board. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line motor-ship Port Alma arrived at Lyttelton at 6.15 a.m. to-day from London, via Panama and Suva. The vessel left London on January 21, and experienced a fair weather passage to Panama. Similar conditions prevailed on the trip from Panama to Suva, where the vessel arrived on February 29. After discharging at the island, she took aboard an experimental consignment of 2800 cases of bananas for Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Port Alma will remain in Lyttelton until Wednesday, when she proceeds to Dunedin.
Captain W. Haytor is in command of the vessel.
Included among the passengers were: Misses R. Dornbush, C. 11. and M. Ililljack. Professor and Mrs D. Summerville. Dr D. G. M’Millan. Mr and Mrs A. C. Barnes, Mrs Wilkie, Mrs E. Statham and Mr O. Ilintz.
