St John’s, Woolston. At the monthly meeting of the vestry of St John’s Church. Woolston, there were present: The vicar (the Rev F. A. Tooley), Messrs Cooper, Douglass, Beaumont, Garland, Dryden, Lingard, Harris and Burgess. Mr Burgess reported on the cost of printing the “ Parish News” and after discussion the matter was left in the hands of Messrs Douglass and Burgess to make further investigations regarding production. The diocesan secretary wrote regarding church repairs, stating that no funds were available to make a grant for the purpose, but the Standing Committee and Church Property Trustees were prepared to sanction a loan. Motions of condolence were passed with Mrs A. T. Fraer, in the death of her husband: and Mrs Meluish in the death of her father. It was reported that arrangements for the parish carnival to be held on Thursday, March 10. and Saturday, March 12, were well in hand. Waltham School Committee. The monthly meeting of the Waltham School Committee was presided over by the chairman, Mr J. J. Hurley. Others present were:—Messrs A. Wickes (headmaster), N. Sturrock (treasurer), F. Legge (secretary), G. Lester, F. M’lvor and A. E. Forsev. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Rev C. A. Fraer. The Education Board wrote advising that Mr J. D. M’Donald had been appointed as assistant master. It was reported that the picnic was well attended and was a great success. Mr Sturrock reported on Dental Clinic Committee business. Sumner High School. Mr G. S. M’Kehzie presided over the. monthly meeting of the Sumner District High School, when there were- also present Mesdames E. Pye and T. Cook, Messrs H. Crawshaw, H. C. Ford, J. Browne. W. Odell and the head master. The chairman reported on making inquiries for supplies of clay to topdress the playground and said he hoped to reach some finality this week. Correspondence was received from the Department of Health (Division of Dental Hygiene), stating that a number of additional trained dental nurses will be available for allocation at the beginning of April and that arrangements will be made to fill the Sumner vacancy as soon as possible after that date.

Lawson presided over the regular weekly meeting of the Sumner Pride Juvenile Good Templars. The S.J.W. reported that the concert recently held in aid of the Representation Fund, had met the expenses but had provided very little for the fund. He also reported that he had visited New Brighton and brought greetings from the Union and Rawhiti Lodges. Bro M. Lawson and Bro G. Cobeldick were elected captains of the teams for the indoor competitions. Sister T. Wislang, Sister T. Parsons and Sister B. Sexton were elected captains of the girls’ teams.
