NEW BRITISH BUDGET.
Country Paying its Way Out of Revenue. United Press'Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, March 5. When the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Mr Neville Chamberlain, presents his National Budget next month, probably on April 19, it is anticipated that he will require to make provision for a total expenditure of about £792,000,000. Immense as is this sum, it will be the first Budget below £800,080.000 for eight 3’ears. In spite of this, the country is pa3’ing its way out of revenue, as a result of the drastic economies put into operation for this purpose last September.
It is now clear that the economies then planned will actually be exceeded. and in place of a saving of £70,000,000. the figure will be approximately £78,000,000.
The broad effect of the Government’s drastic policy of economies in expenditure will be about £11,000,000 below that of a year ago.
