Macartney Hits Up 94 Runs In 32 Minutes. BRADMAN AND M’CABE SHINE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyr lgh t. SYDNEY. March 6. Playing for Gordon in the grade cricket competition, the former international, Charlie Macartney, scored 9 4 in thirty-two minutes, making 23 runs off one of Bettington’s overs, including four fours and a six. The ball was lost in the long* grass during the next over, when he hit so hard that he stuck the score board and knocked the letter “ M ” off liis own name. The crowd was electrified. Macartney also took six wickets for 64. His bowling was exceedingly varied and difficult. Bradman, playing for St George against University, scored 67 in thirty minutes. Theak took five wickets for 49. M’Cabe. for Mosman against Manly, hit up 115 in fifty-four minutes.

Smith 65, Singleton 36), met Eden. King’s Old Boys, 247 (Pearson 120), met Parnell, 53 for no wickets. Grafton (two short), 226 (Ellis 115), met University, 49 for one wicket. North Shore, 118 (Ferguson 43; T. Lyon, seven wickets for 27 runs), met Y.M.C.A., 320 for four wickets (Eiliott 41, Cooper 39). DUNEDIN, March 5. Cricket matches were played in fine weather. Albion, 222, beat Christian Brothers, 66 (Shepherd, five wickets for 11 runs) and 104 (Brooke 34, M’llroy 32: Duncan, five wickets for 27, Shepherd three for 34). Carisbrook, 308 for seven wickets declared (A. Smith 70, Moloney 116, D. Cameron 31, Allan 33), beat Kaikorai, 201 ana 61 (Dunning six wickets for 18 runs, Moloney three for 20). Grange, 149 and 153 for six wickets (Knight not out 65: Coupland, four wickets for 57), beat 33unedin, 97 (Elmes, four wickets for 29 runs) and 84 for five wickets (Ditchfleld 43 not out: M'Kay, two wickets for 19 runs). University, 198 and 85 for five wickets declared (Ibbotson 41, M'Haffie 30 not out; Leader, three wickets for 27 runs), beat Old Boys, 128 (J. Smith 44: Jolly, five wickets for 39 runs) and 149 for three wickets (Groves 41, Gale 64). When University declared, they set Old Boys 156 to make in an hour. The batsmen gave a fine display of fast scoring, and with four balls to go in the last over of the day required seven runs for a win. University was saved, however, when S. Smith hit the wicket with a throw-in from the boundary, Alloo being out.

BOYS’ ASSOCIATION. The bad weather at the time when the games in the Canterbury Boys’ Association’s competitions should have begun on Saturday necessitated all the matches save one being postponed on the grounds. The only game to be played was in the fifth (under fourteen years) grade, when Medbury Preparatory School, 82 for six wickets, defeated AVeat Christchurch District High School, 79, by three runs and four wickets on the first innings.
