PHAR LAP IMPROVING.
Stone Bruise May Jeopardise Chances in Race. (Received March 5, 4.45 p.m.) AGUA CALIENTE, March 4. Phar Lap is recovering as rapidly as expected from his inflamed right front foot. Trainer Woodcock said on Friday night that during a work-out late last week a small stone wedged under his shoe and was not discovered until after the following morning’s gallop, when the hoof began to swell and spread. Despite the injury, the horse was galloped a few times this week. Woodcock said that the stone bruise made it more difficult to say definitely whether Phar Lap would be ready for March 20. the day of the Fifty Thousand Dollars Handicap.
