VEGETABLE MARROWS.
If the points of the strong shoots of vegetable marrows be pinched out at this time, any fruit already set will swell up more rapidly. The production of side shoots will also be encouraged, and these in their turn will produce more fruits. Provided the soil Avas reasonably rich when they were planted, there is no need to give any more manure to vegetable marrows. A common of the failure of this plant to bear as freely as it should do is over-luxuriance, caused by too much manure. Though large vegetable marrows are used for many purposes, small ones from six to eight inches long arc far better flavoured, and those who have once tried them will reject the larger fruits. Another reason for cutting them while 6mall is that the plants bear more freely.
