TROTTING NOTES.

acceptances for the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s meeting will close at seven o’clock to-morrow night. * * * * Nominations for two trotting events at the Banks Peninsula meeting will close at six o’clock to-m<Jrrow evening. * * * #• Nominations for the South Wairarapa Trotting Club’s meeting close on Thursday at 8 p.m. * * * * Nominations for the Invercargill Trotting Club’s meeting close on Friday at 5 p.m. * * * The American stallion Travis Axworthy, who has just finished his stud duties, has been put into training again. He is under R. W. Franks’s charge. * * * * Salient seems to take a long time to come to his best form after a spell. He has been doing plenty of solid, steady work at Addington, and he should show improvement in his next effort. FROM ENGLAND. The English-bred pacer Miss Joan Direct arrived at Auckland last week. Only horses imported from America are required to go into quarantine, and therefore Miss Joan Direct will go into quarters at Smith’s stable at Epsom immediately. NEEDS EXPERIENCE. Although one would not give Tamaroa much chance of winning at the approaching Auckland meeting, the brother to Gold Treasure may turn out a good proposition before the country circuit is finished in the autumn. His gait is not quite so smooth as could be wished, but he will soon balance himself with a bit more experience, and as he possesses some pace and is a good cut of a horse, F. Herring has every reason to be pleased with his gelding. LIKES ROOMY TRACK.

W. T. Tomkinson has been very successful with Actor. The Author Dillon—Marie Tempest pacer has not a very attractive gait, but can go fast and also stay. He does his best work on a large track. Actor looks in fine order at present and is getting through plenty of useful solid work. GOING WELL. Real Girl put up a capital performance in the Liverpool Handicap at the last meeting at Addington when she was third to Anon and Ron, covering the two miles in 4min 30 l-ssec. The Real Guy pacer, who has not been long in J. J. Kennerley’s stable, looks as though she may win a good two mile event before the season closes. She continues to please by the manner in which she does her training work. DISSATISFIED WITH SYSTEM. The West Australian Breeders, Owners and Trainers’ Association has decided that owing to the number who were dissatisfied with the system of handicapping, a /ballot be taken as to whether the present system of handicapping is satisfactory.

The race track at New Brighton will be available to trainers for training purposes to-morrow. * * * * AUCKLAND MEETING. Everything points to the Auckland Trotting Club having a successful meeting on Saturday and Monday next. at Epsom and Otahuhu have their teams well forward, and with the favourable weather which has been on tap for weeks past the tracks have enabled fast work to be given. The clay track at Epsom is the one all fast work is registered on, but the chances are that the club will throw open the outside of the course proper on Tuesday and Thursday, and the run on the grass prior to the meeting is bound to he taken advantage of by trainers. * H«; * He The latest addition to the stable of J. S. Shaw is Great Logan, who in the past has been trained by O. E. Hooper at Lauriston. Great Logan, when at his best, is one of the best sprinters in the Dominion. * * H< * AUTHOR JINKS BACK. The pacer Author Jinks has joined E. Husband’s stable at New Brighton. Author Jinks, who is by Author Dillon—Lady Jinks, has been troubled with unsoundness for some time past and has not raced since he contested the New Zealand Cup last season. He was then trained by-J. Young at Addington, and had only a very light preparation for the big race owing to being almost broken down. He finished fourth in the first division to Kohara, Terence Dillon and King Pointer. In the final he was second to Wrackler, which was a great performance under the circumstances. Author Jinks went sore again and has been turned out in the paddock. The New Brighton owner-trainer, who lias leased the South Canterbury-owned pacer, states that Author Jinks looks very well and has put on a lot of weight during his spell. There is little doubt but that Author Jinks will win races if he keeps sound as he possesses speed and stamina. Husband who does not have many horses in his stable, has been very successful with those he has taken, in hand. He got the Wellington-owned Firpo to race in improved form and won several races with him. Later he took over Harold Thorpe, who was most profitable, and showed fine speed and stamina, although when he went to New Brighton he was anything but sound. He has recently been retired. With Nona Bingen he has also been successful. John Jinks, who is a half-brother to Author Jinks by John Dillon, has also joined the same stable. He was a brilliant two-year-old and won the New Zealand Sapling Stakes in 1929. TROTTING FIXTURES.
