Not What She Meant.
npilE PROFESSION of passport officer is less interesting than it was. Still, the profession is not without its compensations of humour. Some years ago a titled lady applied for her first passport. Her chief pride was her beautiful hair, which reached almost to her ankles. She filled the line in her application devoted to distinctive features with the words, 44 Hair, below the knees.” When her passport was sent to her a too literal clerk had abbreviated the description to 44 hairy legs ”!
