“A BUSINESS TOUCH.”
Opinion of Fruitgrowers on the Railways. A decision to join the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce was reached at a meeting of the Christchurch Tomato and Stone Fruit Growers' Association on Saturday evening. The president (Mr H. T. Falla) was appointed the association’s representative on the chamber. Mr C. E. Pope complimented the Railway Department on the straightforwardness of a letter received regarding holiday train arrangements. It was the first letter of its tone that the association had received from the Department, for years, he said, and indicated that there was a real business touch about the railways under the new management. It was stated by a member that tne Australian Government was giving a rebate of £lB 15s a ton on sugar to be used for preserves and canned fruits intended for export.
