DETAILS OF VOTING.

United Victory in Victoria and Tasmania. MR BRUCE’S MAJORITY. Per Press Association. United Press Assn.—By Electric (Received December 21, 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 21. Following are details of how the voting went in the several States.When the counting ceased last night the total votes for each party were:— V otes. United Australia Party . 1,226.504 United Country Party . 315,207 Federal Labour 732,670 Beasley Labour 302,679 Independents 141,451 Communists 7,868 In New South Wales the Government retained Darling (unless second preferences departed from the Lang Plan candidate) and Newcastle. Lang Planners won Barton, where Mr J. T. Eldridge, who had deserted Martin, defeated the sitting candidate, Mr J. T. Tully, Federal Labour. Dailey was taken by Mr J. Rosevear from Mr E. G. Theodore, the Federal Treasurer. Cook was taken by' Mr J. S. Garden from the Ministerialist, Mr E. C. Riley, though the preferences may possibly upset the position. The Lang seat was won by Mr D. Mulcahey (Lang Plan) from Mr W. J. Long (Federal Labour). Reid was won by Mr J. Gander from the Ministerialist, Mr P. Coleman. In South Sydney Mr J. Stewart (Lang Plan) seems to have the Government supporter, E. Riley, beaten. East Sydney is held by Mr E. J. Ward. Hunter was held by Mr R. James. Werriwa was held by Mr H. P. Lazzarini, though he is hard pressed. West Sydney is held by Mr J. A. BeasleV, leader of the Lang Planners. United Party. The United Australia party won Eden, Monaro and Parramatta from Labour and retained North Sydney (Mr W. M. Hughes), Parkes, Robertson, Warringah, and Wentworth. In the last named, the sitting member was Mr W. Marks, who figured in the revolt with Mr Hughes which wrecked the Bruce Government. He was beaten, two to one, by a political newcomer, Mr J. Harrison, who was under the same banner.

The Country Party captured Calare, where Mr H. V. C. Thorby, former State Minister of Agriculture, ousted Mr G. Gibbons, framer of a financial “ plan ” last year. Gwydir was won from Federal Labour, though the preferences must decide who is to be the incumbent. Hume was won from Mr P. Moloney, Minister of Transport. The Country Party retains Cowper, Dr Earle Page’s seat; Richmond, and Riverina. The ex-Premier of N.S.W., Mr W. A. Holman, handsomely recaptured Martin for the United Australia party, polling 20,847 to the Lang Planner, Mr C. H. Hankin’s 11,233. The other United candidate, Mr M. Abbot polled 12,351, and Mr J. H. Catts Federal Labour, 5813. Victoria. Mr S. M. Bruce in Flinders, polled 36,700 votes to the Federal Labour candidate’s 11,900. The Government retain BouTke, Melbourne, Melbourne Ports, where Mr E. J. Holloway, Mr Bruce’s vanquisher in 1929, went for a safer seat, and Yarra, where Mr Scullin polled 18,000 votes against the United Candidate’s 10,000. The United Party won Batman from the Attorney General, Mr F. Brennan; Bendigo, Corio, Flinders, Indi and Wannon, all from the Government, and retained Balaklava, Ballarat, Fawkner, Henty and Kooyong. In the last-named, Mr J. G. Latham polled 46,000 to Federal Labour’s 14,000. Mr J. E. Fenton, United, is hard pressed in Maribrynong with 25,017 to Mr J. Beckett’s (Federal Labour) 25,025. Mr W. E. Scott, Independent, polled 996. His preferences will decide. The Country Party took Corangamite from the Government and retained Echuca and Gippsland. South Australia. The Government held Grey and Hindmarsh. The position in Adelaide is very uncertain, while the Uniteds will again represent Angas, Barker, Boothby, and Wakefield. Queensland. The Government appears to have won Brisbane, Herbert, Kennedy, and Oxley, all from the Uniteds. The Minister of Customs, Mr F. M. Forde, retained Capricornia. The United party hold Lilley and Moreton. The Country Party keeps Wide Bay. The ex-Speaker, Sir Littleton Groom, as an Independent United, recaptured Darling Downs from the United. Maranoa is uncertain as several thousand votes are outstanding. Tasmania. The Uniteds carried all five seats. Two Ministerialists, Mr C. E. Culley and Mr C. W. Frost was ousted. Western Australia. The Country Party retains Forrest and Swan, but the position in the other three seats, Fremantle, Kalgoorlie and Perth, is obscure. The “ Sydney Sun ” credits the combined opposition with forty-eight seats, combined Labour with nineteen, Independent 1, doubtful 7. The paper considers that Mr J. B. Chifley, Minister of Defence, Mr J. M’Neil, Minister of Health, and Mr L. L. Cunningham, Assistant-Minister, are also doomed. However, a large amount of counting has yet to be done, and the close contests are not easy to forecast.
