THE PREMIER PRIZE.

AN EXTRAORDINARY RECORD. Two years ago we instituted the Premier Prize for the Circle, with the view towards encouraging sustained as well as good work. Many brilliant people lack perseverance and many plodders lack brilliance. The prize has been won both years by the same entrant, Miss Gladys Levy (16 years), 353, Barrington Street, Spreydon., who has a remarkable list of accomplishment again to her credit. Her list includes the following published work: 10 stories, 61 poems, 25 good scribes, 5 laurels, 3 circle artists, 4 drawings, totalling 268 marks for the year!

Second, Frances Henshaw, Templeton (129 marks). Third, May Kelly, 33, Kent Street, Spreydon (120 marks). Fourth. David Guild, 141, Rugby Street, Merivale (106 marks). Lesley Cockerell was fifth with a book full of good work. There is only one prize in this competition, but Aunt Hilda specially wishes to commend also all the placed competitors. A 3*ear is a long time to be trying every week and I am very proud of these Starlets who have so obviously learnt the value of patience and perseverance. Once you establish the habit, the rest is easy, for it soon becomes second nature, and the ladder of life has lots of slippery rungs where you will need all the grit and determination you can muster. Now you will all have a fresh chance next year. We will start after the schools re-open. In the meantime enjoy your holidays all you possibly can and keep out in the golden health-giving sunshine.—A.ll.
