STEAMER ASHORE.
Grounded in Fog on N.S.W. Coast. TUGS PROCEED TO SCENE. (Received December 19, 2.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 19. The steamer Newton Elm is ashore near Crescent Head, 180 miles north of Newcastle. She left Newcastle yesterday en route for Sydney and London, via Pacific Islands. Her cargo consists partlv of huge cables to be used in the construction of the harbour bridge. The weather was fine, but foggy, when the vessel grounded at nine o’clock in the morning. Tugs have gone from Newcastle.
