Congress defiance of the new regulations to cope with civil disobedience has already led to bloodshed. In the village of Radapur, sixteen miles from Allahabad, the police discovered a hoard of food secreted in a hut. The food was intended to feed Congress workers. Hundreds of peasants, brandishing bamboo poles, attacked the police, who opened fire injuring several, including women, who participated. INDIAN YOUTH GETS GAOL (Received December 18, 11.50 a.m.) CALCUTTA, December 17. A special tribunal at Bengal sentenced Lalit Chandra Raha, who was arrested for the attempted murder of Commissioner Cassells, to five years’ hard labour for possessing a revolver without a license. He was acquitted on the charge of attempted murder. Commissioner Cassells was wounded in one thigh on August 21, when a youth sfiot him as he was about to enter a school at Dacca to conduct an inspection.
