DISTRICT WOULD GO BACK.

Discontinuance of Buses Feared by Northcote Residents. The Tramway Board’s proposal to discontinue the Northcote buses was vigorously attacked at last evening’s meeting pf the Waimairi County Council. W ith the discontinuance of the service, the district would go back to where it was twenty-five years ago, said Mr W. G. Chapman. The passengers on the buses averaged 200 a day and last Friday night the bus had carried forty-seven people. The residents were not catered for and that was the reason why the bus did not pay. There was no service after 9.26 p.m. till 10.58 and after the pictures between twenty and thirty people could be seen walking home to Northcote. The Kaiapoi and Belfast buses which passed through had unsuitable timetables and were usually filled by the time they reached PapaSeveral petitions were read from residents concerned and the council decided to protest to the Minister in charge against the discontinuance of the present bus service.
