CHRISTMAS PARTY.
Selwyn Kindergarten has Happy Time.
With Christmas near at hand and all school exercises and pencils laid aside, the children eagerly look forward to the parties and gatherings that mark the end of the year. There were many happy faces to be seen at the Selwyn Free Kindergarten yesterday afternoon, when a Christmas party was held. There were a large number of parents and their friends; in fact, the new kindergarten seemed too small to accommodate all the children and the visitors. Mrs K. Hadfield, Mrs J. R. Evans and Miss Dawe, of the Christchurch Kindergarten Association, were present. Miss H. Hull, principal of the kindergartens, congratulated the teachers on the splendid work they had done during the year and she also thanked the mothers for their co-operation and support. “ This party is the first to be held in the new building and it is to be hoped that many such pleasant gatherings will be held in the future,” said Miss Hull. Miss Hull then read letters from Miss Holland, former Director of Kindergartens, and now of Berhampore, India, and from Mr C. P. Tripe, of Wellington, expressing good wishes for Christmas and congratulations on the completion of the new kindergarten. Miss Hull thanked the committee for their splendid efforts throughout the year and conveyed best wishes for the coming j'ear to the members and mothers. Under the direction of Miss E. Pearce, assisted by Miss M. Page and Miss E. Sandal, the children gave a number of items. The children’s band also gave several items, which caused much amusement. After afternoon tea, which was provided by the mothers, Father Christmas arrived and delighted the children by handing them toys from the Christmas tree.
